American Eagle Gold Bullion Values
Authorized by the Bullion Coin Act of 1985, American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins quickly became one of the world's leading gold bullion investment coins. American Eagles are imprinted with their gold content and legal tender "face" value. This face value marks the coins as legal tender, but is purely symbolic as the melt value of coins' gold content is considerably more than the denomination of the coin. The face values each could more correctly be thought of in terms of their weight in ounces $5 = 1/10, $10 = 1/4, $25 = 1/2 and $50 = 1 full ounce. Although they are produced by the government primarily as a means of providing a convenient investment vehicle for small amounts of gold, there does exist a robust aftermarket driven by collector demand for the issues of past years.
