Nicknamed "The Walker," the Walking Liberty Half Dollar was minted by the United States government from 1916 to 1947. On the front it features Lady Liberty walking and holding an olive branch. On the reverser is shown a perched bald eagle. The coin was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and his initials, "AAW", appear under the eagle's wing feathers on the reverse. It is 30.6 mm in diameter, composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, and has a net weight of .36169 oz. pure silver. Mintmarks were located on the front under 'In God We Trust' in 1916 and 1917. In mid 1917, the mintmark was moved to the reverse to the upper left of 'half dollar' along the rim.
